Yep, turned out that apple didn’t think Bjorn (my name according to my credit-card) and Björn (my name according to everyone else) could possibly be the same person, so they put my iPhone Developer Connection application on hold until I called them. That’s an overseas call, mind, and I was on hold for 15 minutes.
Not the first time something like this happens. Those two dots are pretty expensive. But fancy.
