Very very cool. Can you spot humanity near the end? Puts it all into perspective, doesn’t it?
Here’s something mindblowing: despite the short existance of ‘us’, during every moment of this history from the start of life, at least one living thing was your ancestor. Most of them don’t have any surviving ancestors, which makes it all the more amazing. Your ancestors, each and every one of them, managed to survive against the odds.
Just as mindblowing: In the early parts of this history, every ancestor of yours is also the direct ancestor of nearly every other living thing around you. If you go back far enough, even the tree that was felled to make that table you might be sitting at.
Happy Darwin-day!
Pharyngula: You are a very short note near the end of the symphony of life
